Arabic coffee and date cake on Hickory Street
Baladi Coffee serves Arabic and Turkish coffee at 165 Hickory St. Both are $5 on the Athens menu, which also has a vanilla date oat milk latte and familiar espresso drinks.
The menu draws on Egyptian and Palestinian flavors, with Adeni tea, pink Kashmiri chai, honeycomb bread with black seed and honey, and cinnamon date cake. You can order online for pickup.

🌳 Athens leaves room for the Moon Tree beside its new courthouse
The Gist: Athens-Clarke County commissioners voted 7-3 on Oct. 6 for a new courthouse design at 120 W. Dougherty St. with a pocket park around the Moon Tree. It removes several parking spaces. The other design would have cut down the tree to make room for more parking.
Why It Matters: The loblolly pine grew from a seed that flew on Apollo 14, but county officials say it may not survive construction. Courthouse officials urged the commission to move ahead because the current building needs more space and better security. Mayor-elect Dexter Fisher wanted more time to pursue the federal building on Hancock Avenue instead.
What's Next: The commission is expected to consider financing and parking plans in November, according to the county's tentative schedule.
