We pair tables of 6 strangers together at a great local restaurant as a way to meet new people in the city specifically tailored to your vibe.

How it works:

🤿 Learn To Scuba Dive In Athens This Summer

If you’ve ever thought scuba looked fun but never knew where to start, Dolphin Dive Center is the local Athens shop that helps beginners get certified.

Since 1999, they’ve helped Athenians start diving with beginner certification, equipment sales and service, continuing education, and dive trips.

Their beginner Open Water course is made for first-timers: no prior scuba certification required, minimum age 12, online learning, classroom time, pool practice, and instructor-led checkout dives.

You don’t need to be young, ultra-fit, or the adventure-sports type to ask about it, just comfortable in the water and healthy enough to dive.

It works for adults, teens, parents, couples, empty nesters, retirees, and friend groups who want to do something more memorable this summer than the usual dinner plans.

Classes run every month, so now is the right time to get your questions answered and see which upcoming class fits your schedule.

🐾 ACC's Couch Crashers Program Returns This Month

Athens-Clarke County Animal Services is bringing back its “couch crashers” program, a low commitment foster initiative that lets residents take a shelter dog home for a long weekend. With foster weekends scheduled for June 26-29 and July 3-6.

Why It Matters: It's an easy, low-commitment way to relieve overcrowding, reduce stress on shelter dogs, and help more pets get adopted.

🎉 Hot Corner Weekend Kicks Off in Downtown Athens

The Hot Corner Celebration & Soul Food Festival is back June 11–13, bringing live music, soul food, local vendors, and community events to Athens' historic Black business district downtown. The main festival takes over the Washington and Hull streets area on Saturday.

Why It Matters: One of Athens' longest-running community festivals, Hot Corner celebrates the history, culture, and businesses that helped shape the city.
