Bring Your Own Book to Park Hall’s Monthly Reading Hour
Park Hall Silent Book Club invites anyone with a book to read alongside others in UGA’s Park Hall Student Lounge, Room 317, at 200 Baldwin Street. The English Department schedules the group for the first Tuesday of every month. All are welcome, including local adults. Its next confirmed meeting is Tuesday, November 3, from 4 to 5 p.m.

🏠 Athens could fund roads for 24 Habitat homes near Gaines Elementary
The Gist: County staff recommend committing up to $2.7 million in SPLOST 2020 housing funds to Athens Area Habitat for Humanity for Micah's Creek Phase 2. The money would reimburse about 800 feet of public road, water and sewer lines, storm drains, sidewalks and on-street parking serving 24 home lots near Gaines Elementary.
Why It Matters: Habitat plans to sell the 24 homes to households earning 50% to 80% of the area median income with no-interest mortgages. Staff ranked Habitat's request above the Athens Housing Authority's proposal for a North Downtown Athens greenway, noting the direct link to new homeownership and the project's construction timeline.
What's Next: The Mayor and Commission are scheduled to consider the funding request Wednesday, November 4. Habitat expects to start the eligible infrastructure work in early 2027.
