About George's Lowcountry Table

George's Lowcountry Table on Macon Highway brings traditional Southern food to Athens with a Lowcountry accent that sets it apart from the standard Southern comfort restaurants in town. With nearly 800 reviews at 4.5 stars, the restaurant has built a loyal following for its breakfast, lunch, and dinner service in a laid back, airy space that feels welcoming from the moment you walk in. The menu draws from Lowcountry cooking traditions: shrimp and grits, fried seafood platters, Southern vegetables done right, and breakfast plates that draw morning crowds throughout the week. The kitchen handles these classics with skill and generosity, and the flavors carry the depth that comes from recipes that are rooted in tradition rather than just referencing it. The Macon Highway location is outside the downtown core, which gives George's a neighborhood restaurant feel rather than a tourist spot vibe. The space is bright and comfortable, with an atmosphere that works for everything from a Saturday morning breakfast with the family to a casual dinner on a weeknight. The bar area adds a social dimension for people who want a drink with their meal. George's Lowcountry Table is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with hours that vary by day. The restaurant is closed on Mondays. Parking is available on site, and the Macon Highway location is easily accessible from most parts of Athens.

Food was just ok. Service was wonderful. The shrimp and grits appetizer was great, personally it was the only food item I enjoyed. The complimentary biscuits were hard unfortunately. I got the seafood jambalaya and it tasted too much like stewed tomato's for me, the tomato really drowned out all the seafood flavor. My fiance got the enchiladas, which he did enjoy. We added a side of creamed spinach that wa pretty good. Side salads were average, it's a side salad....We will go again and try some other menu items.

Calm place with good food. We ordered enchiladas and short ribs. Short ribs were our favorite. Service was fast and good, and the place was nice as well.

AMAZING Food and atmosphere!! Everyone loved their food and had a little to take home. We also had the popcorn crawfish but forgot to take a picture of it. The beef short rib was very tender, no knife needed! The crab cakes are large and mostly made with crab!
