About Boar's Head Lounge
Boar's Head Lounge on E Washington Street has been hosting live music and pouring drinks since the 1970s, making it one of the oldest and most authentic dive bars in Athens. With nearly 180 reviews at 4.3 stars, it carries the kind of history and character that newer bars cannot manufacture. The live music programming is the backbone of Boar's Head's identity. The bar has been a proving ground for Athens musicians for decades, hosting acts that range from punk and rock to folk and experimental. The small stage and intimate room create a raw, unfiltered live music experience that is fundamentally different from the polished productions at larger venues. As a bar, Boar's Head is unapologetically a dive. The drinks are cheap, the decor is worn, and the atmosphere is the product of 50 years of accumulated character. That is exactly the appeal. For people who value authenticity over aesthetics, Boar's Head is the real thing. The E Washington Street location puts the bar in the downtown nightlife corridor, within walking distance of the 40 Watt, Georgia Theatre, and the rest of the Athens bar scene. Cover charges for shows are minimal or nonexistent, making it an accessible option for any night of the week. Boar's Head Lounge is open evenings through late night. Check local listings for the live music schedule.

went to boars to watch the Alabama game last night and walked upstairs to get some service. Noticed my roommate in line and tried to talk to her because she was by herself- that’s when the bouncer cut me off and told me he wasn’t letting anyone in. I told him I understood that they have capacity and she’d get in when she could. That’s when the owner came over yelling at everyone to get out the way and yelled at me for talking to his bouncers. I again tried to be respectful and told him I was sorry and explain myself, then he told me I’m “not pretty enough to act that way” and I was appalled. I LOVED this bar and it really put a bad taste in my mouth. I asked if he were the owner and he said yes if you don’t like it you could leave and I said that was no way to talk to a customer OR a woman and he pushed me out of the bar making me drop my stuff along the way before I even got the chance to let my friends know I was leaving. I will NOT be back. This was Very heartbreaking to say the least, especially with a $40 cover per person. If I could leave no stars I would.

Extremely rude staff. Watered down drinks. Dead atmosphere. If you’re in Athens…don’t spend your money here
