About Southern Brewing Company

Southern Brewing Company on Collins Industrial Boulevard operates in a converted industrial space with a big patio, 16 taps, and a relaxed vibe that has made it a favorite among Athens beer drinkers who want something a little off the beaten path. With a 4.7 star rating and 300 reviews, it has built steady loyalty through quality beer and a welcoming atmosphere. The tap list changes often and leans into variety. Sours, pilsners, wheat beers, ales, stouts, and experimental batches cycle through the 16 handles, which means repeat visits are rewarded with something new. The brewing team is not afraid to push into less common styles, and the quality is consistent even when the recipes are adventurous. The patio is a major draw. It is big enough to handle events and food pop ups, which happen regularly and add an extra dimension to a brewery visit. The space has a neighborhood block party feel, especially on weekends when the weather cooperates. Dogs and families are welcome, and the crowd is a genuine mix of Athens residents rather than a strictly beer nerd audience. The Collins Industrial Boulevard location is outside the downtown area, tucked into an industrial park that would be easy to miss if you were not looking for it. That slightly hidden quality adds to the charm. People who find Southern Brewing tend to come back regularly. The brewery is open for taproom service throughout the week. Check their social media for food pop up schedules and event announcements.

Athens Scoop says: The patio on a Saturday afternoon with a food truck parked outside. That is Southern Brewing at its best.

We had 7 people around 4:00 pm on a beautiful Saturday in February. The weather had been retry gross all week, so we really lucked out with how sunny it was. It was chilly, but that didn’t stop the crowd. There were a lot of people there. They were having a dog adoption event with the Athens-Clarke County Animal Shelter. Fun brewery with a huge outdoor area, similar to Terrapin. There’s a small stage where they usually have a band playing. The band that was supposed to play that day sadly cancelled a couple of days before. There are Adirondack chairs and picnic tables. They have cute café lighting too. The beer was good. Our favorite was the Peppermint Mocha (porter). Unfortunately, the two that I really wanted to try were already sold out when we went. My only complaint is the lines were very long, and at one point, our friends waited for over 20 minute to get a beer. Overall, it’s a fun brewery. We’ll be back!

Off the beaten path, literally. Family friendly brewery with events and BBQ food truck to boot. We came on a night with live wrestling. Die-hard fans, friends and onlookers all treated with quick, kind friendly service; and it's also clean and well organized.
