🥙 Downtown Barberitos Is Closing After 26 Years
Downtown Athens is saying goodbye to a longtime lunch staple. The original Barberitos on East Clayton Street will close at the end of July after 26 years. Owner Keith Neace, who began working there in 2000 before taking over the restaurant, thanked Athens for decades of support, memories and late-night burrito runs.
Why It Matters: The closure marks the end of one of downtown’s longest-running restaurants and follows the recent closure of neighboring Bad Moon, leaving two more vacancies along East Clayton Street.
