🌮 Meet Pancho’s: New Mexican Spot on Pulaski

Taking over the former Pulaski Heights BBQ space on Pulaski Street, Pancho's Tacos & Tequila is one of Athens’ newer restaurant additions, bringing handmade tortillas, street tacos, quesabirria, and house salsas to the Athens dining scene. Since opening, the spot has quickly become a go-to for casual dinners and margarita nights, with a patio atmosphere that is made for a slow summer evening.

🌿 Cofer’s Has the Plants Athens Yards Need Before Summer Really Hits

The expensive part of buying plants in May is not the first day they look good. It’s figuring out what still looks good after Athens heat, sun, shade, and real summer weather settle in.

That’s why Cofer’s Home & Garden is worth the trip. They’ve been helping Athens grow since 1922, with annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, native plants, houseplants, soil, tools, patio furniture, and Weber grills all in one place.

Bring a photo of the spot you want to fix: a bare front bed, a porch that needs color, a shady corner, or a backyard you want to actually use this summer. The Cofer’s team can help you pick what fits your yard before you spend money on the wrong thing. Mention Athens Scoop when you go.

đź—ł Athens Election Heads to a Runoff

Athens voters narrowed the city’s crowded mayoral race Tuesday night, with Tim Denson and Dexter Fisher headed to a June runoff after no candidate cleared the 50% threshold needed to win outright. Several commission races are also headed toward runoffs, meaning campaign season in Athens is far from over.

Why It Matters: Athens is about to pick its first new mayor in years as Mayor Kelly Girtz leaves office due to term limits.

🏠 What’s Next For the UGA President’s House?

After a proposed hotel redevelopment fell through, the former UGA President’s House on Prince Avenue is back on the market. The historic property at 570 Prince Ave. drew local concerns about traffic and scale during redevelopment discussions and is now once again seeking a buyer.

Why It Matters: One of Athens’ most recognizable historic homes is once again in limbo. With the hotel plan off the table, the future of a prominent Prince Avenue landmark is once again up in the air.

What do people notice before your shoes, your shirt, or your watch? Your glasses.

The expensive mistake is not buying glasses. It’s buying the pair that looked fine in the shop, then feels wrong every time you see a photo of yourself.

Adams Optics helps Athenians find frames that actually fit their face, with frame + single-vision lenses for $99, bifocals for $149, and progressives for $249. It’s Athens Scoop’s Recommended downtown eyewear shop.
