🛒 What a new Publix could mean for West Athens
The Gist: A new 50,000-square-foot Publix is under construction at the Magnolia development on West Broad Street near UGA. The grocery store is part of the larger mixed-use project at 1000 W. Broad Street, which is expected to include additional retail and 179 student housing units when it opens in 2027.
Why It Matters: The new Publix will give West Athens another grocery option while bringing more retail and housing to a part of the city that is changing quickly. For residents who live, work, or regularly travel along West Broad, the development will also bring a new major destination to the area.
🏥 Why Athens is bringing back orthopedic urgent care
The Gist: Athens Orthopedic Clinic has reintroduced AOC OrthoNow, a local urgent-care option focused specifically on orthopedic injuries such as fractures, dislocations, and other bone and joint problems. The network includes an Athens location and is designed to offer specialized care outside of a traditional emergency department.
Why It Matters: Not every injury needs an ER, but figuring out where to go when something happens can be difficult. Having an orthopedic-focused urgent-care option gives Athens residents another place to turn when they need prompt care for a bone, joint, or muscle injury.
If you’re planning a wedding around Athens, consider a country setting that offers a more intimate backdrop for your special day.
