🏠 Nearly $1 Million Could Go Toward Affordable Housing in Athens

The Gist: Athens-Clarke County has announced approximately $938,000 in federal funding that can be used to help increase and preserve affordable housing for lower-income residents. The funding will be available to eligible organizations and developers for future housing projects in the community.

While the funding won't create immediate housing tomorrow, it could support projects designed to expand affordable housing options in the years ahead.

🦷 A New Mobile Dental Program Is Coming to Clarke County Schools

The Gist: The Athens Neighborhood Health Center has partnered with the Clarke County School District to bring mobile dental care directly to students. The dental bus began visiting J.J. Harris Elementary School this month and will provide services including cleanings, X-rays, fillings and preventive care.

Why It Matters: This is especially relevant for Athens families because bringing dental care directly to schools could make essential care more accessible for students who may otherwise face barriers getting to appointments.
