🎶 AthFest grants put guitars and xylophones in Athens classrooms
The Gist: AthFest Educates awarded $65,239.91 to 18 local educators and arts educators for the 2026-27 school year, plus $10,000 for CCSD's Artist in Residence Program and $5,000 for the UGA Performing Arts Center. The money supports arts education for K-12 students in Clarke County schools.
Why It Matters: Cedar Shoals will buy electric and acoustic guitars to meet growing demand, add dance safety equipment and send ESOL students to Atlanta's Civil Rights Museum. Clarke Middle's orchestra program, where student interest has tripled, will buy new instruments and bows; Whitehead Elementary will add xylophones.
What's Next: The AthHalf Half Marathon and 5K, whose profits help fund the grants, are scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11.
