π‘ Plan to Stay in Your Home for Good? Make These Changes Before You Need Them

Most people who plan to stay in their house for good don't think about the front steps, the narrow doorways or the tub they have to climb into until one of them becomes a problem. JOMA Construction has 3 Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists on staff whose job is to spot those problems early, while fixing them is still a choice and not an emergency.
The certification comes from a program the National Association of Home Builders created with AARP. It's built on universal design, hundreds of small details that make a home safer and easier to live in at every age: a step-free entry, a wider doorway, a shower you can walk straight into. JOMA uses those techniques in all of its projects, and they help a family pushing a stroller as much as a parent who's slowing down.

John and Marielle Newland started JOMA in Athens in 2005 (the name is John plus Marielle), and the team has worked on more than a thousand local remodeling projects since. It has also been 100% employee-owned since 2023, so the people planning your project own a stake in how it turns out.
The first step costs nothing. The consultation is free and zero-pressure, JOMA follows it with a cost range so you know what you're looking at, and all the planning is done before you sign a fixed-price contract. One 2025 client, Mike, put it this way: "JOMA has made a very overwhelming project easy!"

π³οΈ 1,154 Athens voters got a second absentee ballot
The Gist: A mailing-list error caused the Athens-Clarke County Elections Department to send duplicate absentee ballots to 1,154 voters who requested one for the November 3 election. The statewide system is designed to prevent more than one ballot from being counted per voter.
Why It Matters: Elections Director Pam Long says the department is tracking affected ballots and adding safeguards to ensure each voter has only one ballot accepted. Voters who receive two should complete only one and must not put the extra ballot in the same return envelope.
What's Next: Shred the blank extra ballot or bring it to the Elections Department at 155 E. Washington Street. Voters can track their ballot through Georgia's My Voter Page.
