🏗️ County staff says West Broad apartment plan is too big for Reese Street
The Gist: David Ellison seeks downtown zoning for 2.47 acres at West Broad, Finley and Reese streets. He proposes 181 apartments with 425 bedrooms, eight townhomes and retail space. He would pay into the county's affordable housing fund instead of building affordable units there. The plan would also uncover part of Tanyard Branch.
Why It Matters: County planners recommend denial. They cite a six-story building that would rise more than seven stories from Reese Street, one parking space per two bedrooms, and insufficient fire access around the townhomes.
What's Next: Commissioners are tentatively scheduled to discuss it Oct. 20 and consider a vote Nov. 3.
