🧢 New Idea: Athens Scoop Merch

I want to create a line of Athens Scoop clothing and hats for people who love living here and want to represent the city.

The idea is simple: genuinely high-quality Athens merch that you’d be excited to wear, with clean designs that feel local without looking like something from a souvenir shop.

I’m thinking:

  • Embroidered hats that fit well and hold their shape

  • Heavyweight T-shirts that still look good after you wash them

  • Polos you could wear to work, dinner, or a Georgia game

  • Sweatshirts and other limited pieces designed around Athens

I don’t want to slap our logo on cheap clothing like everybody else. Everything would feel clean, understated, and premium. More like a real local clothing brand than promotional merch.

I’d start with one small drop and only make what people actually want.

If enough people are interested, I’ll start working on the first collection.

In today’s Scoop:

  • 🩺 What Athens residents should know about a new healthcare option

  • 🍽️ A new way to meet people over dinner in Athens

  • 🏡 What to know before making your next real estate move

💉 Why More People Are Choosing a Plastic Surgeon’s Med Spa for Their Skin

If you've been thinking about Botox, fillers, or a laser treatment but keep putting it off, choosing who to trust can be the hardest part. You want someone who understands what will actually look good on you not someone trying to sell you every treatment on the menu.

That's where The Moore Center Med Spa takes a different approach. New clients start with a free consultation, where the team looks at your skin and talks through what could actually help. Their mission even emphasizes being honest in their assessments, so the goal is to recommend what's right for you rather than simply adding another treatment.

Dr. James Moore, an Athens plastic surgeon, has led the practice for more than 30 years. Treatments are also provided by Kelsey, a nurse practitioner with a doctorate in the field, giving clients access to experienced medical professionals for their aesthetic needs.

And it's not just about injectables. The Moore Center offers facials, BBL laser treatments for sun damage, laser hair removal, hormone therapy, wellness services, and medical-grade skin care.

New clients can receive 15% off their first visit, and the consultation itself is free. So if you've had a treatment sitting on your "someday" list, you can start by simply asking questions and seeing what makes sense for you.

Ready to find out what would actually work for you? Book your free consultation at The Moore Center Med Spa.

🏡 Thinking About Buying or Selling in Athens? Know Who to Call

Real estate decisions tend to get complicated quickly. What should you list for? Is the neighborhood right? How strong should your offer be? And who can help you make the call without making the process feel overwhelming?

Team Bernstein has been helping Athens buyers and sellers navigate those decisions as a fourth-generation local family business. Led by Lisa and Jason Bernstein and based on Epps Bridge Parkway, they bring generations of familiarity with the Athens market to the table.

For sellers, that local knowledge can make a difference when it comes to pricing and positioning a home. Their track record includes generating a dozen showings within hours, several offers in a day, and five offers in two days, including three above asking.

For buyers, the job is different: understanding neighborhoods, knowing what you're looking at, and being ready to move when the right property comes along. That's where having a team that knows Athens can be useful.

One seller summed up their experience this way: “Choosing to use Bernstein & Co. to sell my home was the best decision I could have made.” Within 24 hours, they had several offers and ultimately walked away with more profit than expected.

If buying or selling has been on your mind even if you're not ready to make a move yet - Team Bernstein is a local name worth knowing.

🏈 Athens Just Got a New Team to Cheer For

The Gist: Athens' new indoor football team has officially been named the Athens Crush, a nod to R.E.M.'s “Orange Crush.” The team will begin play this spring at Akins Ford Arena at the Classic Center, giving Athens a new professional sports team to follow locally.

Why It Matters: This is more than a sports story because the team is becoming part of Athens' local entertainment scene, with games coming to a venue many residents already know. The distinctly Athens-inspired name also gives the team a strong local identity, and the family-friendly angle makes it more relevant beyond hardcore sports fans.

🩺 What Athens Residents Should Know About a New Healthcare Option

The Gist: A new healthcare option is expanding access to orthopedic urgent care in Athens, giving residents another place to turn for injuries and other non-emergency orthopedic needs without waiting for a traditional specialist appointment.

Why It Matters: For adults dealing with sports injuries, falls, joint pain, or other sudden orthopedic problems, having another local option can mean getting care sooner and avoiding an unnecessary trip to the emergency room.

Buying a Home? Don't Skip the Inspection. A home can look perfect during a showing and still have problems hiding behind the walls, under the house, or overhead.

HomePro Residential Inspections helps Athens-area buyers, sellers, and homeowners get a closer look at what's actually going on with a property.

If you're under contract, preparing to sell, or simply want to understand the condition of your home, an inspection can give you information you can't get from a walkthrough alone. The goal isn't to make you nervous about a house. It's to help you know what you're getting into before you sign, sell, or start planning your next move.

Buying or selling soon? Get the right person to take a closer look before you close.
