About TRR Cobb House

The T.R.R. Cobb House is a historic museum and resource center at 175 Hill Street in downtown Athens, GA. The house was home to Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb, a prominent 19th century lawyer, author, educator, politician, and military leader whose life intersected with some of the most consequential moments in Southern history. The museum goes beyond simply displaying artifacts. As the institution describes itself, it is much more than merely a museum. It is a historic facility dedicated to historic conservation and conversation, which means it actively engages with the difficult and complex history of the antebellum South, including the experiences of enslaved people. The T.R.R. Cobb House is managed by the Watson Brown Foundation, a heritage preservation and education organization. Tours are available Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum also offers field trips, lesson plans, and research resources for students and scholars interested in Southern history and 19th century American culture. With 28 reviews at 4.5 stars, visitors appreciate the thoughtful approach to difficult history. The Hill Street location puts the museum in the heart of Athens, GA, within walking distance of the University of Georgia campus and other historic landmarks. For history buffs, students, and anyone interested in understanding the layers of Athens' past, the Cobb House provides an honest and educational experience.
