About Ciné
Cine on W Hancock Avenue is Athens' independent art house cinema, and it fills a role that most small cities simply do not have. With a 4.8 star rating and nearly 350 reviews, the theater has earned genuine devotion from moviegoers who want to see films that the multiplex will never book. The programming is thoughtful, the space is intimate, and the concession stand serves local beer, which says everything about the kind of cinema this is. The film selection ranges from independent American features and foreign language films to documentaries, classic revivals, and special screenings. Cine's programmers have a knack for booking films that arrive with festival buzz or critical acclaim and pairing them with an atmosphere that takes the movies seriously without being stuffy about it. The theater screens are smaller than a multiplex, but that works in Cine's favor. The intimacy of the rooms creates a more immersive viewing experience, and the audiences tend to be attentive and respectful. This is a place where people come to actually watch the film, not just kill time. Beyond regular screenings, Cine hosts events, filmmaker Q and As, and special series that make it a cultural hub rather than just a theater. The W Hancock Avenue location puts it in downtown Athens, close to restaurants and bars that pair naturally with a night at the movies. Cine is open daily with screening times posted on their website. Ticket prices are comparable to standard movie tickets. The venue also includes a small bar and lounge area that is worth arriving early to enjoy.

Athens Scoop says: A beer from the concession stand and a film you have never heard of. Cine turns that into a perfect evening.

First, and most important, its an independent movie theater and its a nonprofit. Second, they did a beautiful job of repurposing a building and contributing to the cool downtown Athens vibe. The bar is reasonable and the staff outgoing and helpful. In addition to two dedicated movie screens, a third room (the Lab) often features music but can also show film as well.

My favorite indie cinema! Love the films they curate. Folks working there couldn't be nicer. I do wish the Lab had proper seats ideas of folding chairs but otherwise this is a must for film lovers. I go every time I visit Athens.
