About Avid Bookshop
Avid Bookshop on Barber Street is the independent bookstore that Athens deserves. Founded by Janet Geddis in 2011, the shop has been voted Athens' Favorite Local Business by Flagpole readers for ten consecutive years and was named one of the top 5 bookshops in the U.S. by Publishers Weekly in 2017. With nearly 190 reviews at 4.6 stars, the community love for Avid runs deep. The shop sells new books, gifts, puzzles, and greeting cards with a curation that reflects the literary tastes and creative spirit of Athens. The staff is knowledgeable and passionate, ready to recommend a book based on what you have been reading or what you are in the mood for. The in store experience is browsable and welcoming, designed to make you want to stay and discover. Programming is a major part of Avid's identity. Book clubs, local author readings, poetry nights, and national author signings happen regularly and turn the bookshop into a community gathering space. The Avid Book Subscription Program has been recognized in the NYT's Wirecutter Holiday Gift Guide two years running. The Barber Street location in the ATLAS North building provides a dedicated space for the shop's growing role in Athens cultural life. The online store at avidbookshop.com extends their reach nationally for customers who cannot visit in person. Avid Bookshop is open daily with hours posted on their website. A delightful one-stop shop for thoughtfully curated books and gifts. They even have complementary hot tea to sip on while browsing! Such a cozy nook to sit and relax in while shopping or reading. You can really tell the owner cares about the total experience. Love the new location!

Avid is s new and used bookstore with a great staff and fun selection. They have a little bit of everything. It's s boutique, not a warehouse. Plenty of parking and wheelchair accessible.

Great little bookstore. Great staff. It's still growing, but a very interesting selection to browse, and great puzzles. I got a book and a puzzle. Great place if you really don't know what you want to read next.
